Using the SellThat service lawfully
SellThat is provided for informal traders, spaza shops and home businesses that want a simple online store for product listings, pricing pages, WhatsApp orders, payments and delivery information. You may use the service only for lawful business activity and only for content that you have the right to publish. You are responsible for the accuracy of your store details, including product names, descriptions, prices, delivery areas and contact information.
You may not use the service to publish misleading claims, unlawful products, false stock levels, copied images without permission, or material that infringes another person’s rights. If your store content breaches these terms, or appears to create risk for customers or the platform, we may suspend or remove the relevant content.
What you provide for your store
To set up and maintain a store, you may share product photos, pricing, business details, delivery options and wording for pages such as home, about, pricing and contact. You remain responsible for checking that everything submitted is correct before it is published. If you ask for product upload help or content writing support, you confirm that the information supplied to us is accurate and that you are allowed to use the photos and text.
- Product photos must be your own, licensed for use, or otherwise authorised.
- Prices must be shown clearly and kept up to date when they change.
- Any WhatsApp order instructions must reflect the number or channel you actually use.
- Delivery and collection details must be practical for your area and stock flow.
Orders, payments and delivery details
SellThat can help you present payment information and delivery options on your store, but we do not process your sales on your behalf unless a separate written agreement says otherwise. You are responsible for confirming how you accept payments, when payment is due, how orders are accepted, and how delivery or collection is handled. If you accept card, EFT, cash on delivery or other payment methods, the terms shown to customers must match your actual practice.
Any delivery or collection promise shown on your store must be based on your own arrangements. In Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria, Gqeberha and surrounding areas, you should also consider local access, weather, road conditions and customer availability when setting delivery information.
Content standards for pages and catalogue entries
We may assist with store content writing, catalogue rebuilds and home page refreshes, but the final responsibility for the content remains with you. Your pages must not contain abusive language, unlawful promotions, fraudulent claims or content that could mislead a customer about what is being sold. If you request revisions, you should review the updated text and media before it is used on your live store.
- Descriptions should match the actual item, size, quantity and condition.
- Photos should be clear enough for customers to understand what is being offered.
- Names and categories should be used consistently across the store.
- Any special conditions, such as pre-order items or limited stock, must be stated plainly.
Support, training and technical limits
Our support team can assist with store setup, product upload help, photo guidance, pricing pages, WhatsApp order setup, payment info setup, delivery page setup, staff training and ongoing support. We may show you how to use the service, but we do not take over your business decisions, order handling, pricing or customer communication. The service is designed to be practical for traders who want a straightforward online store without unnecessary complexity.
From time to time, systems may be updated, adjusted or temporarily unavailable. We may also make changes to features, layouts or workflows where needed for security, performance or compliance. Where a change affects how you use the service, we may update the relevant instructions or terms.
Your rights in photos, text and store materials
You keep ownership of the photos, text, logos and other material you upload, subject to any rights that belong to third parties. By giving us permission to use, edit, resize or format your materials for the store, you allow us to carry out the work needed to display and maintain the service. You must not upload material that violates copyright, trade mark rights, privacy rights or any other legal rights.
If a customer or another party raises a complaint about content you supplied, you agree to provide reasonable cooperation so the issue can be reviewed. You are also responsible for checking whether any tax, regulatory or industry requirement applies to your business, including speaking to SARS or a qualified adviser where needed.
Limits of liability and legal notices
We take care with every store page, message, payment instruction and delivery note, but errors can still occur. To the extent allowed by South African law, SellThat, operated by Astros Marketing (Pty) Ltd, is not liable for losses caused by incorrect details supplied by you, third-party service failures, customer misuse, or issues beyond our control. Nothing here takes away rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
If a disagreement arises, the parties should first try to sort it out in writing through normal business communication. These terms are regulated by South African law. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest will still apply.
- Use the service only for lawful business activity.
- Keep your store details accurate and current.
- Make sure your payments and delivery information matches your actual process.
- Check tax, legal and compliance matters with SARS or a qualified adviser.
